Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had on Tuesday convened a YSR Congress Party politburo meet at the party headquarters in Hyderabad, to discuss the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
Having been challenged by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu to move a no-confidence motion against the Congress, Jagan had reportedly stated that he lacks the strength of numbers to pull down the ruling party.
Emerging from the meeting, YSR Congress Party spokesperson Balineni Srinivasa Reddy informed the media that Jagan had enough MLAs lending him their support, and that the party would flaunt its numbers in the event that a no-confidence motion is moved.
He also clarified that Jagan opted to let Chandrababu Naidu table the motion against the Congress.
"Jagan will support the no-confidence motion once the TDP moves it," said Balineni.
The YSR Congress is not the only party in the state to pledge its support to Naidu if he moves the no-confidence motion. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has also announced that it would stand by the TDP President.
The ball is clearly in Naidu's court.
Governor E S L Narasimhan, on the other hand, is reportedly mulling over the options available. According to sources, the Governor alone can call for a special session of the Assembly to force the Congress to prove its strength.
