The YSR Congress, on Thursday, launched a two-day dharna in protest against the fee reimbursement policy of the state government.
Addressing the dharna at Indira Park, YSRCP honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi said the state government was diluting the fee reimbursement scheme.
She said that the recent amendments in the policy have put the future of lakhs of students at stake. She alleged that the government was not concerned about students' welfare, and that it was slowly trying to scrap the fee reimbursement scheme.
Stating that former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had launched the scheme to ensure that poor students pursue higher education while not worrying about the financial burden, Vijayamma said that the present Congress government has diluted the scheme without considering its impact on students and their parents.
She said that the students of Backward Classes, OBCs, minorities and other castes were badly affected due to the recent policy. She demanded that the state government fully reimburse the fee for all students and continue the scheme in its original form.
The YSRCP leader also ridiculed TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu's claim that Fee Reimbursement was his scheme.
She added that her son, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, would implement all the schemes started by YSR if he comes to power in the next elections.
NTR's widow Lakshmi Parvati, YSRCP MLAs and other senior leaders, students from neighbouring districts, and representatives of NGOs, also participated in the dharna. (INN)
