Wipro's consumer care business will invest Rs 220 crores to set up a unit in Maheshwaram mandal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan signed the deal with Wipro Enterprises Director Rishad Premji during a meeting on the sidelines of WCIT 2018 at HICC in Hyderabad.
The project will come up in a 40-acre plot of land in Maheshwaram mandal of Rangareddy district, and will create 300 direct jobs and about 200 indirect jobs. The unit will manufacture toilet soaps and other personal care products.
KTR extended thanks to the management of Wipro for preferring Telangana over other competing states for setting up the unit.
"Wipro has a good presence in Telangana already, and its new manufacturing unit will boost the progress of the industrial sector in Telangana," he said.
He also said that there were many other business opportunities that Wipro could explore in Telangana, and that through TS-iPASS the Telangana government had made it very simple for businesses to set up units in the state.
The latest investment by Wipro was testimony to the fact that Telangana was the favourite destination for investors, the minister claimed.
