IT & Industries Minister K T Rama Rao on Tuesday inaugurated a unit of Wipro Consumer Care in KC Thanda near the Maheshwaram Wipro Park in the city's outskirts.
He was accompanied by Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Wipro chairman Aziz Premji.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said that Premji was a wonderful personality and would remain a role model for the people for his philanthropic efforts.
He said that the unit was set up at a cost of Rs 300 crore, and would provide employment to some 900 people, with 90% of the jobs going to the youth of Kandukooru and Maheshwaram mandals.
Sabitha Reddy said that the contours of the area had totally changed with the establishment of the unit.
Later, KTR went around the unit, inspected the products being made and spoke to the workers.
Ranga Reddy Zilla Praja Parishad chairperson Anita Hainath, Principal Secretary of Commerce & IT Jayesh Ranjan, former MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy, RR district Collector Amoy Kumar, Wipro CEO Vineeth Agarwal, RDO Venkatachary and the local people's representatives were present.
