The Andhra Pradesh state Legislative Assembly functioned for just one hour and 50 minutes during the 5-day winter session that was held from December 12 to 19.
Although it was decided to have 7 sittings, the Assembly functioned for only 6 days. A total of 25 hours were allocated to carry out the business in the House.
However, thanks to uproars over the Telangana Bill, the Assembly could function for a mere one hour and 50 minutes overall. This includes the time spent on the first day on the condolence motion of former South African President Nelson Mandela and 29 former MLAs who died recently. In the rest of the days, the Assembly witnessed only noisy scenes, and no other business could be carried out.
As of today the party position stands thus: Congress - 146 TDP - 80 YSRCP - 17 TRS - 17 MIM - 7 CPI - 4 BJP - 3 CPI (M) - 1 Lok Satta -1 Nominated - 1 Independents - 3
As many as 15 seats are vacant due to the disqualification of Congress and TDP MLAs who defied the party whip during the last No Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. (INN)
