At the closing ceremony of the BJP's Maha Dharna at Indira Park in support of the Musi river project "victims", Union minister and BJP Telangana President Kishan Reddy today said that his party had organized the event to stand by the poor and protest the dictatorial attitude of the Congress government.
He accused the ruling Congress of failing to deliver on its election promises, and criticized its decision to demolish houses of the poor under the Musi beautification project as a diversion tactic.
He warned, "The State government should immediately withdraw its decision. Otherwise, it will face serious consequences. If these homes are demolished, Telangana will become a battleground. No police force will be able to stop the people if they rise in anger."
Reddy criticized the government's focus on costly Musi beautification advertisements instead of basic infrastructure improvements while the GHMC and the Metro Water Works in Hyderabad were facing financial challenges.
He also said that the Musi beautification works, if at all needed, should be carried out in a way that preserved the houses of the poor.
Reddy also took a jab at the previous BRS government, recalling its grand plans involving graphic renderings of high-rise buildings around the Hussain Sagar and promises to make its water as clean as coconut water. He alleged that current CM Revanth Reddy's approach mirrored that of his predecessor K Chandrashekar Rao.
Reddy then spoke of the the BJP's work for the poor, citing the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana which provided free monthly rations to the poor, and the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana which offered health insurance to low-income families.
He concluded by saying that the BJP, following the ideals of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, would resist the Revanth Reddy government's attempts to make the poor homeless, and was committed to supporting the vulnerable in Telangana.
