Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today promised to offer suitable compensation to the landowners affected by the construction of the Ramadas irrigation project in the Khammam district. He also promised free double bedroom houses for them in the district.
Laying the foundation stone for the Bhakta Ramadas Project at Rollapadu in the district, the Chief Minister said that his aim was to supply waters to one crore acres by completing the projects on a war-footing, and sought the active participation of the people.
Announcing sops for the district, KCR said that he was ready to spend Rs 8,000 crores for the project to irrigate thousands of acres to get two crops a year, to supply safe drinking water, and to offer adequate power from December to the district. He also declared that Lambada Thandas would be developed into gram panchayats.
In the previous united Andhra Pradesh, the people, including tribals, had suffered injustice and were deprived of every facility, including irrigation water despite the Godavari passing through the state, and led pathetic lives, KCR said. He asked Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and officials to prepare the perfect plan to make the district green.
"Our fight for statehood was to irrigate our lands, provide jobs to people and use our resources to flourish. In days to come, 1.25 lakh acres will be irrigated," he said.
The CM said that his ultimate aim was to see smiles on the faces of the state's poor people.
