R Krishnaiah, President of APBC Welfare Association, convened a meeting to chalk out a demand for a sub-plan for BCs, along the lines of the SC / ST Sub-Plan Bill.
R Krishnaiah, President of Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Association, convened a meeting at Jubilee Hall in Hyderabad in order to chalk out a plan to table a demand for a sub-plan for backward classes, along the lines of the sub-plan Bill that was passed for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The meeting was attended by representative leaders of backward classes from all political parties in Andhra Pradesh.
The allotment of Rs. 10,000 crores for BC development, and a reservation of 50% for the community are foremost among their demands.
Said Krishnaiah, "The SC / ST Sub-Plan Bill was an admirable achievement. It was also very easy, as SCs and STs don't have as many cultural intricacies and sub-categories among them. BCs in the state are also much larger in number than the aforementioned communities, and hence, need more aid than the government is providing them."
