MBT President and candidate from Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency Dr. Khayam Khan appealed to the people to vote for him to put an end to the water mafia being run by MIM leaders.
Addressing massive public meetings at Riyasat Nagar and Sai Baba Nagar, Dr. Khan said that organised mafia had spread its deadly tentacles in almost all the areas of the Old City, especially the Chandrayangutta constituency.
The mafia was selling water at Rs. 10 per barrel. On an average, each family is forced to buy 2 barrels of water on a daily basis. Therefore, the poor families were spending Rs. 600 per month on water, he said.
By a rough estimate, the mafia was selling nearly 10,000 barrels of water in Chandrayangutta and illegally earning Rs. 1 lakh per day. At this rate, the poor residents of Chandrayangutta were being forced to shell out nearly Rs. 30 lakh a month, he alleged.
There were dozens of localities like Mohammad Nagar, Ismail Nagar and Ghouse Nagar where the residents were being forced to buy water for their daily needs, he added.
He said that water reservoirs were constructed for the people of Chandrayangutta constituency more than 15 years ago. However, those reservoirs were not connected to the pipelines, depriving the local residents their due share of water.
This was deliberately done to allow the mafia to flourish in the area.
Through the illegal sale of water, the MIM-backed mafia earned lakhs of rupees in the last 15 years, Dr. Khan alleged.
Dr. Khayam Khan alleged that the water mafia was operating under the political patronage of MIM leaders including sitting MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Dr. Khan also said that residents were also denied proper sewerage facility. The old and thin pipelines often led to overflowing and choking of the drainage lines. And the MIM leaders collected money from the local residents to clean those lines.
He said that the poor residents of the Old City, especially of the Chandrayangutta constituency, were thus forced to pay for the basic services which they are entitled to get for free.
He also slammed the MIM for the regular shutdowns of electricity, low voltage and faulty metres in the Old City.
He appealed to the voters to vote for the "television", the MBT's symbol, to put an end to this MIM-led mafia-raj in the Old City. (INN)
