Rajya Sabha member V Hanumanth Rao on Friday demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao apologise to the farmers for the failure to honour their promises of waiving off farm loans.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, VHR alleged that both Naidu and KCR had cheated the farmers by promising that the latter's agricultural loans would be waived off.
However, the duo's failure to fulfill the promises had put the farmers in a new problem. The banks were about to include the farmers in the defaulters' list, and the latter were not in a position to seek fresh loans for the Kharif season, VHR said.
VHR also expressed concern over the statement of SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya on the agricultural loans waiver promises. He demanded that both Naidu and KCR pressurise the Centre or seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention on the issue.
The Congress MP also asked the TRS government to take steps to remove encroachments from the Wakf properties in the State. (INN)
