Venkat Reddy, KCR Deny Code Violation

The EC had slapped notices for violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Telangana by-elections.
Hyderabad | 26th July 2010
Information Technology Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday replied to the notice issued to him by the Election Commission for violating the model code of conduct during campaigning for the assembly by-elections.

Venkat Reddy stated in his explanation that he had only responded to the problems mentioned by some youths, and that he had not made any promises.

The Information Technology minister was issued a notice by the EC after it received some visuals that allegedly show him telling some youths from Sirpur assembly constituency that he would take up road and irrigation works and complete the works within a year if they elect the Congress candidate.

The EC issued the notice to Venkat Reddy since he is a cabinet minister and, under the model code, cannot make any promises.

Meanwhile, KCR also filed his reply to the Election Commission over the notice issued to him.

KCR told the EC that he had not made derogatory remarks against home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, but had only pointed out her failures, to people at a campaign rally. He said that he had only said that she had failed to fulfill the promises she had made as a minister.

The EC had issued notice to KCR to explain his actions of promoting social evils like liquor and bribery, and also his usage of derogatory language against a woman.

KCR had allegedly said told voters to accept liquor and money from the Congress but cast their votes for TRS.
