TPCC chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy today lambasted the TRS regime for being "all talk and no action" with regard to the problem of rampant sales of spurious seeds in Telangana.
Addressing the media after attending a general body meeting of the Huzurnagar municipality, he said that though Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had announced that the PD Act would be used against the sellers of spurious seeds, no action had been taken against those accused in spurious seeds sales cases.
"In Chintalapalem village, spurious seeds have been seized. However, no action has been taken against the sellers. Let alone using the PD Act to punish them, the government was unable to even ensure a proper enquiry," Reddy criticised.
He said that the Congress would not hesitate to organise an agitation if the government did not take steps to punish the sellers of spurious seeds within the next 24 hours.
The admonishment comes just days after the Suryapet police
arrested a six-member gang involved in the sale of spurious seeds. The gang had been cheating Telangana's farmers for some time now.
The police were able to seize spurious and adulterated seeds worth Rs 13.5 crore from the possession of the accused.
Officials who had made the arrest had revealed, "One M Siva Reddy had set up a company which he called Dwaraka Seeds in the Vansthalipuram area of the city. He had worked at different seeds companies in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh. After opening Dwarka, he then started selling 15 different types of spurious seeds for crops including chilly, tomato, lady's finger, and watermelon to the gullible farmers of the state without a license or a lot number. We busted this racket after conducting a deep probe at Suryapet district's Chintalapalem mandal."
Dwarka's regional manager Laxma Reddy, accountant Yadagiri and dealers Pratap Kumar, Ramama and Jaganmohan Rao were also arrested.
