Reiterating that the previous BRS government had constructed the Kaleshwaram project only for amassing money, Minister for Irrigation Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other BRS leaders tender an unconditional apology to the people for their misdeeds.
Speaking at a press conference, Reddy said that the BRS government had spent Rs 94,000 crore for the construction of the Kaleshwaram project, but could lift only 160 TMCs of water during the last five years.
"A whopping Rs 1,47,000 crore are still needed for completion of the pending works of the project. Surprisingly, works worth Rs 25,000 crore were allotted during the execution of the Kaleswaram project without any DPR," Reddy claimed.
Criticising the BRS' call for a Chalo Medigadda program on March 1, the minister alleged that the BRS leaders were playing gimmicks to cover up their mistakes, and were spreading falsehoods about the state of the Medigadda barrage. He also alleged that BRS working president K T Rama Rao was in depression and was speaking utter lies on the Kaleshwaram project to cover his party's misdeeds.
He also said that the Medigadda barrage had been handed over to National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), and that repairs would be undertaken and the barrage used based on the report after that.
