In a major development, the Telangana government took a decision to regularize 4,001 contract employees of its RTC, and the officials concerned issued orders to this effect.
Earlier, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had kept the RTC staff in good humor by announcing a 44% fitment against the demand for 43%, which was what was offered by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Taking a cue from the Chief Minister, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation today issued orders regularizing its contract employees, according to information.
With this, the services of the contract employees including 2,376 drivers and 1,625 conductors have been regularized with effect from May 14.
TSRTC Joint Managing Director Ramana Rao issued orders to this extent, according to information. The orders were issued as per a previous agreement reached between the workers and the management.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had recently promised to regularize the contract workers in the state including those of the RTC. With the order of Ramana Rao, the TRS Government has thus kept the promise of regularizing the RTC's contract workers.
Reacting to the development, the Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU) expressed happiness and hailed the RTC for keeping its promise. (NSS)
