TRS Nizamabad MP K Kavitha today attacked the Opposition for criticising the Telangana government and creating a "hysteria" over the Telangana-Maharashtra Godavari pact.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, Kavitha claimed that the Congress lacked "common sense" and "knowledge" of any of the irrigation projects that were being undertaken by the State government, and charged the Opposition with resorting to mud-slinging tactics at the government.
"There has been a hue and cry from the Opposition ever since the agreement was signed. Several protests were organized, several effigies of leaders were burned and several Opposition leaders resorted to mud-slinging at the government. It looks like the Opposition will never let any project be undertaken, even if it is beneficial to the State and its people," she lamented.
The TRS leader then appreciated Congress leader K Jana Reddy for supposedly admitting that the previous Congress regimes did not reach any agreement with Maharashtra to construct any reservoir on Tummidi Hatti.
"At least now the rest of the Congress leaders, including TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and others, should follow suit and stop persecuting KCR and the government," Kavitha suggested.
She denied the allegations levelled by the Congress that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had agreed to a 148-metre high reservoir. She also lambasted the Party for saying that the State government did not achieve anything by signing the agreement with Maharashtra.
"The Congress questions the government's achievement. It is obvious that the historic agreement with Maharashtra will ensure constant water supply to meet the irrigation needs of the entire northern Telangana. Also, the government has repaired the strained relationships between Telangana and Maharashtra. Are these not achievements?" she asked.
"The Congress is more interested in protesting against the government and corrupting impressionable minds. They should instead focus on the real problems of the State," she added.
Kavitha also criticized the BJP for its comments against the Maharashtra agreement.
"The BJP should not make a hue and cry on the agreement, which will transform the lives of the farmers of Telangana. It should instead exert pressure on the Centre to accord National Status to the Kaleshwaram project," she said.
