Tribal People Likely To Get 12% Quota In Telangana

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that a new Bill would give 12% reservations to ST people in the education and jobs sectors.
Hyderabad | 12th January 2017
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, during a meeting, announced that the Telangana government would soon draft a Bill in the ongoing Winter Session of the State Legislature that would allow tribal people to have 12% seats reserved in the State's education and jobs sectors.

During the meeting, Harish Rao said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised to increase reservations for tribal people from 6% to 12% during the 2014 elections and was now keen on fulfilling it.

He pointed out that the Chellappa Commission, too, had recommended a hike in reservations after reviewing the increase in the population of Schedule Tribe (ST) people in the State to 36 lakhs. And the Chief Minister wanted to follow suit, he added.

As per reports, the Bill has been prepared and would be introduced any time during the second lap of the winter session in January.
