The Intelligence Bureau has issued an alert to the local police of a possible terror attack in Hyderabad today. The IB has reportedly received the above information from highly credible sources, and has instructed the police to increase security in the city, especially in the especially in localities that are likely to become crowded due to Maha Shivratri. Begum Bazaar, NTR Park, a few shopping complexes and theatres are some of the places that are being considered as likely targets.
Meanwhile, the city cops are on it, and have beefed up the security near malls, cinema halls, temples - especially temples of Lord Shiva, and localities like Begum Bazaar and Jagdish Market, at the latter of which places a bomb had been discovered only day before yesterday.
The police are going in person to all crowded localities to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras, and are throroughly inspecting the existing ones.
Police check points have been set up everywhere in the city, and anyone remotely suspicious is being pulled up for a through grilling and inspection of belongings. As an added bonus to the surveillance, the police have reportedly seized around Rs. 35 lakhs of unaccounted-for cash during the checks.
While the IB generally issues an umbrella alert on all major festivals, the Hyderabad police has apparently learnt its lesson the hard way, and is not taking any chances.
