Warangal (the city) was in the list of "Akarshan cities" released by Union minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu.
Naidu today released the second list of Smart Cities, which will be developed with the assistance of the Central government.
Besides Warangal, Amaravathi, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Simla, Naya Raypur and Itanagar are in the second list.
In the first phase, 20 cities under the Akarshan scheme and 493 Amrut towns had been selected. So far 98 of a possible 100 Akarshan cities have been identified, and a five-year plan has been drawn up to develop the cities under the Smart Cities scheme.
The Union minister stated that the Centre had taken measures to protect and rejuvenate the culture of the cities. All basic facilities had also been improved in the towns and cities, he added.
He also detailed the achievements, performance and welfare programs of the BJP-led NDA government which has completed two years of ruling the country.
