Senior Congress leader and sitting MLA from the Palair constituency in the Khammam district, Ramreddy Venkat Reddy, today breathed his last in KIMS Hospital at Secunderabad, due to respiratory problems.
Reddy, 72, was diagnosed with lung cancer 15 days ago. He leaves behind his wife and four daughters.
Ramreddy Venkat Reddy served as a minister in the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinets. He was a native of the Pathalingala village under the Kamepalli mandal of the Khammam district. He entered politics in 1967, and served as a sarpanch till 1977. He was elected as an MLA four times. He represented the Sujata Nagar constituency of the Khammam district before it was de-merged during the 2009 Assembly elections. He contested and won from Paleru in the 2009 elections. He defeated Tammineni Veerabhadram of the CPM (a Mahakutami candidate) in those elections.
He assumed charge as PAC Chairman after the death of Congress MLA from Narayankhed Kista Reddy. Ironically, both the leaders died after assuming charge as PAC Chairman, in a span of 10 months.
