The hearing on Telangana's GO 123 that sets the compensation and rehabilitation package to be offered to the farmers whose land will be acquired for irrigation projects, and that has been challenged in the High Court, will happen on Tuesday (August 9) in the Hyderabad High Court.
The GO 123 was earlier struck down by a single-judge bench of the High Court, and the State government filed an appeal before a review bench.
As per the affidavit submitted by the government's counsel, the evacuees would get a better compensation and rehabilitation package under the State government's GO 123 than what the Land Acquisition Act 2013 would provide. It also said that the farmers residing near Mallanna Sagar did not object to the package under the GO.
The counsel also submitted a report to the court showing measures that were being taken to provide alternative employment opportunities to the farmers and allied workers.
The court also heard arguments on a petition filed by the land evacuees of the National Investment And Manufacturing Zones (NIMZ) of the government. The petitioners said that they would lose their jobs if their lands were acquired by the government. In an answer to this, the government informed the High Court about the steps being taken to provide complete rehabilitation and compensation to the evacuees.
