The Telangana health department yesterday announced that it would soon begin to vaccinate all those aged 18 and above against Covid-19 from today, July 1.
Speaking on the matter, Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivas Rao said, "All those who are aged 18 and above will now be able to get vaccinated against Covid-19 at 204 immunisation centres across the state. People all over the state are already being inoculated on the basis of walk-in registrations at 636 primary healthcare centres in Telangana's rural pockets. As for Hyderabad, the vaccination process in an additional 100 centres within the GHMC's limits will commence from July 3. We have decided also to administer the second dose of the Covisheild vaccine after 14 to 16 weeks of the first dose."
Reddy however suggested that people take the second dose of the other vaccine, the Covaxin, within four to six weeks of taking the first. He said that 30 lakh people of the state would require the second dose of the vaccine in the month of July.
Responding to a question on the deadly delta variant of the coronavirus, the senior official said that there was an urgent need to remain alert and practice all the relevant Covid-19 safety norms as the variant was a dangerous one.
