Participating in Children's Day celebrations conducted by Women and Children Development and Physically Handicapped department at Ravindra Bharathi, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali today stressed the need for providing quality education to students, especially women and minority communities, in the State.
Mahmood Ali said that it was the prime responsibility of teachers to provide quality education to the children with a focus on values and ethics. The children, he said, were the future of the nation, and should get quality education for a better life.
He listed out the various initiatives that have been undertaken by the State government including 'Gurukul' schools for minority sections. Students of gurukuls should make use of all government facilities including educational loans for further studies.
Speaking next, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said that girls are proving a tough competition for boys in most of fields. In the recent Olympics, several women won medals and brought laurels to the State and nation. He pointed out that as against the national average of 1,000 boys to 946 girls, Hyderabad's sex ratio was 1,000 boys to 914 girls, and emphasized the need to improve the ratio.
The Centre and State governments have launched various programs for the welfare of girls and women in order to balance out the ratio, he said.
Sharing Dattatreya's concerns over Hyderabad's low sex-ratio, Narsimha Reddy said that the government was implementing many welfare schemes by increasing salaries to 'Anganwadi' workers.
There would be no improvement in results if people lacked awareness. The State government would launch awareness campaigns. It would also change existing laws to improve safety of women.
