Senior Telangana Congress leader and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao respond to the Centre's decision to assign the responsibility of constructing the national Polavaram project to Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming apex council meeting which is to be held on September 21 in the national capital.
Speaking at the Assembly media point on Friday, Reddy claimed that the project would affect Bhadrachalam, Dummugudem and Manuguru villages of Telangana if it were to be constructed as per the present design.
He demanded that the Centre either give the responsibility to Telangana, or construct the project by itself as it had accorded National Project Status to the reservoir.
"The Centre, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao have made a secret agreement in regards to the construction of this project. Why else is KCR not raising his voice against it, even when he knows that seven mandals of Telangana will be submerged under it?" he questioned.
He also said that he would address a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi apprising him of the issue.
Reddy said that he would soon launch a signature campaign against the Polavaram project if KCR didn't raise his voice.
