Telangana Congress Seeks Data On Bifurcation Promises Status

The Congress said that the Telangana government had failed to get the Centre's nod for any of the projects promised in the A P Reorganization Act 2014.
Hyderabad | 14th June 2018
Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir today said that the state government had failed to get the Centre's nod for any of the projects promised in the A P Reorganization Act 2014.

He demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao discuss these issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with the latter on Friday.

Addressing the media today along with MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Shabbir Ali congratulated Reddy for approaching the Supreme Court for the implementation of the assurances made in the A P Reorganization Act. It was a surprise to note that the union government had in its affidavit in the case mentioned that a steel plant at Bayyaram would not be viable, he said. The issue was linked with the sentiments of the tribals in the area, and agitations against the Centre and the state had already begun in those areas, he claimed.

He also asked the state government why it kept silent on the tribal university, the railway coach factory, 4,000 MW of power from NTPC, bifurcation of the High Court, the factory at Bayyaram and other issues mentioned in the A P Reorganization Act.

Shabbir Ali also said that the state was expecting KCR to announce a Ramadan gift of 12% reservations for Muslims and 10% reservations for tribals after his discussions with the PM.

Sudhakar Reddy demanded that the Centre implement the A P Reorganization Act in letter and spirit. He also said that the Centre had announced income tax exemption to the notified areas for industries from 20% to 35%, and demanded a white paper on the tax exemptions effective April 1, 2014, to March 31, 2020.

He also warned the state and the Centre that there would be agitations for a steel factory at Bayyaram and a transfer of four villages adjoining the Bhadrachalam temple from AP to Telangana.
