Chief advisor to the Telangana Government and chairman of State Pollution Control Board Rajiv Sharma held a meeting with the senior officials of Transport, Civil Supplies, Police and Municipal Administration, and reviewed the steps being taken by various departments regarding prevention and control of air pollution in Hyderabad and rest of the State.
Addressing the meeting, Sharma said that the State was coming under immense scrutiny by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal for its rising levels of air pollution, and had issued specific directions for improving air quality.
The chief advisor said that steps were required to mull the apex court and the NGT's advise in areas including those where the levels had already exceeded the threshold.
He asked the officials to launch public awareness campaigns for air-pollution control, vehicle maintenance, and minimal use of personal vehicles. He also observed that a multi-pronged, sustained and integrated approach including close monitoring of implementation of the SC order was paramount.
