With the water levels receding slowly in the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP), irrigation authorities closed all nine gates of the project today.
The water level in the project reached 1087.9 feet against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1,091 feet.
Ever since the onset of monsoon this year, the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) on the Godavari river has been receiving heavy inflows. Situated in the Balkonda Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district, the reservoir is brimming with water as the project continues to get heavy inflows from upstream areas in Maharashtra. While the full capacity of the reservoir is 90 tmcft, SRSP currently has 76 tmcft water.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely, and all the required measures have been taken to restrict the movement of people in the project areas inundated with flood waters to avoid loss of life.
Meanwhile, 6,000 cusecs of water through the escape gates and 10,000 cusecs of water through the main canal area are being released for the Kharif season.
