Leaders of the Opposition today slammed the Telangana government for the death of an unemployed youth from Warangal, B Sunil Naik, who passed away after a suicide attempt.
The youngster reportedly took the extreme step as he was depressed by the government's failure to release notifications for the filling up of government job vacancies. He had been receiving treatment at the Gandhi Hospital.
State BJP head Bandi Sanjay Kumar termed the death a "government-sponsored murder", and demanded that the TRS regime immediately take up the process of recruitment for all the vacant government posts in the state.
"After the creation of Telangana, only Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his family members got good jobs. However, it is time that the KCR regime starts the recruitment process for the vacant government posts at least now. It is unfortunate that the death of a young man had to be the catalyst for this," he said.
Kumar, along with fellow party leader Vivek Venkataswami, visited the bereaved family to extend their condolences.
The leaders assured the family that the BJP would stand by it. They demanded that the government extend ex-gratia aid of Rs 1 crore to Naik's family immediately, and that it file an FIR against the CM for his role in the victim's death, based on "the youth's own last words".
The leaders also urged the youth of the state not to resort to suicide in order to achieve their goal of securing government jobs, and called upon the other political parties in Telangana to come forward and fight for the cause of the jobless youth on one common platform.
Several Congress leaders too lambasted the TRS regime for the death. MLC T Jeevan Reddy even demanded that the CM take full responsibility for the incident, and added that his party would take up the issue of the death with the state's Human Rights Commission.
Speaking to the media, he said that it was unfortunate that the CM had announced that the government would fill only 50,000 vacant posts despite the fact that the total number of such posts far surpassed the aforementioned figure.
Referring to the recent increase in the retirement age of state government employees, he said that the move was just another instance of the TRS government's "betrayal" of the unemployed youth.
MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, on the other hand, alleged that the Warangal resident had committed suicide due to the "inefficiency virus" that had affected the state government, and demanded that ex-gratia aid of Rs 1 crore be given to the bereaved family immediately.
He alleged that the CM, who had "secured jobs for all his family members", had forgotten the plight of the unemployed youth.
But perhaps it was AICC national spokesperson Dasoju Sravan's attack on the government that was the most biting.
He said, "It is a most unfortunate and black day in Telangana. Sunil Nayak, the son of a Lambada mother, who dreamt of becoming a Collector is today being taken to a burial ground just because of the utter failure of KCR to provide employment to lakhs of deserving youth. Has KCR already forgotten the pivotal role played by the youth in the Telangana agitation? Is this how he is repaying them for their sacrifices?"
"Two other youngsters, Koppula Raju and Golla Ganesh, also committed suicide for the same reason just some days ago. Although we had all expected that everyone would get better jobs in a new Telangana - jobs, water and funds were the three core pillars of the separation movement - the father and son duo of CM KCR and Minister K T Rama Rao have proved us wrong by sitting idle and not filling lakhs of vacant government job posts even after 7 years of being in power. Is it then wrong if KCR is hanged in the middle of the road for showcasing objectionable sadism by delaying recruitment? After all, it is he who has murdered Sunil Nayak," the leader thundered.
