Hyderabad | 21st March 2025
Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today announced that the State government had no plans to impose tolls on rural and State roads, providing relief to motorists across the region.
During a Budget discussion in the Assembly, he said that the government was committed to infrastructure development without burdening the public with additional charges.
He also said that to enhance connectivity the government planned to upgrade link roads connecting each village to double lanes, improving inter-mandal connectivity within constituencies.
He also spoke about the Strategic Linkage and Bridge Construction (SLBC) tunnel project, with a budget of Rs 4,600 crore, and assured the members of its completion within two years to provide essential water resources for farmers.
The minister accused the previous BRS government of neglecting road development in Telangana, and claimed that infrastructure projects were concentrated primarily in the Gajwel, Sircilla and Siddipet Assembly constituencies (represented by KCR and his family members). He challenged opponents to provide evidence of significant road construction in other areas during the BRS administration.
It's noteworthy here that in October 2024 the minister had unveiled plans to construct 17,000 km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore, aiming to eliminate dirt roads and improve rural connectivity. He had also spoken of the ambitious Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, estimated at Rs 30,000 crore, expected to enhance traffic flow and support economic growth in the region.
