Junior Doctors Demand SPF

Junior doctors at government hospitals in Hyderabad and Warangal, including at Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital and Niloufer Hospital, are in the second day of their boycott.

The medicos, under the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJDA), are protesting against the withdrawal of the Special Protection Force, that is supposed to protect the doctors from relatives of patients.

The junior doctors refused to attend to emergency services last night, and as a result, patients have been in distress. There are reports of 8 children having died at Niloufer Hospital, and a few others being in the ICU. However, striking doctors say that such deaths occur even otherwise, since kids are brought to the hospital from faraway places at critical stages.


The hospitals affected are Osmania, Gandhi, Niloufer and Government maternity hospitals at Pitlaburz and Sultan Bazar in Hyderabad, and MGM Warangal hospital.

Protesting doctors gheraoed the Director Of Medical Education Dr. T Raviraj, at Niloufer. He has now announced that a committee has been formed on the issue, and that after the committee submits its report the government will decide on its next course of action.

Protesting doctors, however, are cynical of the reponse to their strike, and have said they will continue their boycott.
