Noted Telangana Ideologue Kothapallai Jayashankar passed away in Warangal, of cancer.
Jayashankar was 76, and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Hyderabad. He was brought back to his home in Hanumakonda in Warangal, which was where he breathed his last.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrasekhar Rao left for Warangal to offer his condolences.
Jayashankar hailed from Hanamkonda, where he was born on 6 August 1934. He did his schooling from his hometown.
He then pursued his MA in economics from Banaras Hindu University, and his PhD in Economics from Osmania University.
He taught economics at CKM College in Warangal for some time, and then was Registrar of the then Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL). After this, he was appointed the Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya University.
He was a member of National Commission for Enterprises In The Un-Organized Sector during the years 2004-2006.
He was known to have participated in the 1969 Telangana agitation, and has been a vocal advocate of a separate Telangana state ever since.
