The State government on Thursday declared October 24 instead of October 25 as a general holiday for Deepavali.
The government took the decision following a recommendation made by the endowments department that there was a solar eclipse on October 25 and that all temples would therefore be closed.
The eclipse begins at 5:11 PM and ends at 6:27 PM on October 25.
According to the Telugu almanac, amavasya prevails on the entire night of October 24, and it will be auspicious to conduct the Lakshmi puja on the day.
