A single judge bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Justice Challa Kodandaram today asked the state government to inform its stand by tomorrow on the petition filed with a plea to allow the print and electronic media to cover and report the ongoing demolition activity of the Secretariat buildings.
The judge said that he would pass appropriate orders if the state did not respond by tomorrow on the issue.
Arguing the case, the government counsel told the High Court that as per provisions of the construction rules only workers would be allowed at the demolition site, and that the government could not allow anybody else there.
This prompted the High Court to wonder if the state government could issue a bulletin on the day-to-day demolition activity like it was doing on the Covid-19 pandemic's status.
The counsel for the government then said that 95% of the demolition works had been completed already.
He also told the court that he would submit the stand of the state government before the High Court on the issue by Monday.
However the HC declined to give time till Monday, and asked the counsel to come up with the stand by Friday.
The matter was posted to Friday for further hearing later by the High Court.
