The Telangana Government on Saturday announced the constitution of district-level committees to control the rise in the prices of essential commodities.
According to a GO issued by the government, the Price Monitoring Committee will be headed by District Collector as its Chairman, and will have the District Supply Officer as its Convener.
The Joint Collector; district officials of the Agriculture, Marketing, Horiculture, Oilfed, Markfed and Civil Supplies Corporation, and of the Vigilance & Enforcement departments; and any other officials the Chairman feels necessary; will be the members of the committee.
The Committee will review the price rise, and the availability of supplies with and the intervention needed from the government to control the price rise, and report the corrective steps to be taken to the government.
It will meet once in a month and deliberate upon various issues related to its mandate, and suggest measures for controlling the prices of food grains, pulses, edible oils, vegetables, milk and other essential dail-use commodities. It will also look at any other issues pertaining to the civil supplies department and recommend to the government the measures to be taken to address them.
The committee may also invite the representatives of the trader, miller and dealer communities, the GO said. (INN)
