Congress leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar strongly condemned the amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises on Thursday, Ponnam alleged that amendments were being made to the Act as a part of a conspiracy hatched by Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and A P Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to establish the control of the Central Government over Hyderabad.
Condemning the increase in the Legislative Council seats in Andhra Pradesh, he alleged that by making certain amendments to the Act, the BJP-led Central Government was trying to encroach upon the powers of Telangana.
Ponnam said that the Central Government should consult the Telangana Chief Minister and other political parties in the State before bringing about any amendments to the A P Reorganisation Act.
He also questioned the silence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other TRS leaders over the amendments to the Reorganisation Act.
Congress MLC M S Prabhakar too condemned the amendments to the Reorganisation Act.
Prabhakar claimed that the then Congress-led UPA Government had introduced the best Bill in the Parliament, and therefore no further amendments were required. However, the BJP-led Central Government was making amendments only to weaken the interests of Telangana.
Alleging that the Chief Minister has failed to protect the interests of Telangana, he said that K Chandrashekar Rao was too busy focusing on the politics of defections.
He demanded that KCR take corrective steps and counter the Central Government's moves by taking all Opposition Parties into confidence. (INN)
