KCR Offers Daylong Debate On CAA In Assembly
The Telangana CM raised the controversial CAA issue in the Assembly today and said that the government would take up a day-long discussion on the issue.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday raised the controversial CAA issue in the Assembly and said that the state government would take up a day-long discussion on the issue.
Participating in the debate on the thanksgiving motion for the Governor's address, he said that the CAA and the NRC issues had led to nationwide agitation in the country, and that there was therefore a need to take up a special discussion on the controversial topics. He also reminded the House that his party had opposed the CAA in Parliament.
The CM said like many others he too did not have his birth certificate as he was born in his house at his native village, and asked that if he himself did not have a birth certificate, from where would he get the birth certificate of his father.
KCR said that the most irritating thing about the CAA was that it went against the very fabric of the Constitution which promised equal treatment to all citizens irrespective of their religion, caste and creed. "No civilised society will accept a law which keeps out people of one particular religion," he said.
KCR said that the House would thoroughly debate the issue and pass a resolution to send a strong message to the entire country as the issue related to the country's future, its Constitution and its stature in the world. He expressed concern that the country was losing respectability because of the law as the issue had been discussed in the United Nations and other world bodies.
"We are part of this country. We will not keep quiet. We will do whatever we can in our limits. We will not be afraid of anybody," he declared.
