Telangana & Campus: More Unrest
“Peace rally” planned for tomorrow; Govt. orders shutdown of all hostels and messes.
Hyderabad | 9th December 2009
The Osmania University remains the hotbed of the Telangana uproar in town. Currently, at the OU Arts College campus, protests are on against the police, who prevented Chukka Ramaiah from entering the area.
Colouring the Telangana campaign with a “peace” mission, students of the Telangana and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have planned a “Shanti Yatra” towards the Assembly, on the 10th. The state government has brought in 9 Rapid Action Force (RAF) battalions to combat any possible violence in this regard.
The government has also ordered the shutting down of messes and hostels across all major universities in the Telangana region. This includes Osmania University in the city as well.
Section 144 will be invoked in all districts from today, and traffic restrictions will be imposed in view of the looming possibility of civil unrest.
Students of the Hyderabad Central University have also plunged into the Telangana agitation, as their December 7 rally to the GMC Balayogi Stadium has indicated.
As for KCR, this is the 11th day of his fast so far. His health is clearly on the downslide, and NIMS doctors have asked him to end the fast-unto-death.
