National General Secretary of the BJP P Muralidhar Rao today demanded that the Telangana government immediately suspend its "defective" land registration website, the Dharani portal, alleging that the launch of the website had derailed the entire system of registrations in the state.
He said that though the state government had claimed it would revolutionise land registration through the portal, it had ended up complicating the process.
"The government was forced to suspend the registration of lands for the last three months in part because of problems in the Dharani portal. As a result, the people of the state having been suffering greatly. Not only is the government losing land revenue worth Rs 6,700 crore, builders and other real estate workers too are suffering due to the constant delays caused by the portal. So I urge the government to suspend the portal immediately," Rao said.
He added that the Dharani portal had become a haven for those wanting to carry out fake registrations, and pointed out that there was no provision on the website to link the documents required for land registration.
The BJP leader also said that under the new land regulation systems the Registrar and the Sub-Registrars had no power to stop any land registrations except under Section 22-A of the Indian Registration Act, and claimed that this would only increase fraudulent registrations.
