MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi strongly objected to the handing over of the law and order department to the Governor in the newly formed state of Telangana.
Speaking to media personnel after the Lok Sabha
passed the Telangana Bill on Tuesday, Asaduddin Owaisi said that the MIM had proposed several amendments to the bill, but that they had not been carried out.
He said that law and order was a state-subject and it would be unconstitutional to handover the law and order of the GHMC area (the joint capital) to the Governor after the bifurcation.
Owaisi said that the MIM had been consistently saying that there would be no compromise on the status of Hyderabad, which the party had insisted, should be the capital of Telangana only.
The MIM chief said that he would be approaching the Supreme Court in protest against the clause in the bill that hands over the law and order authority to the Governor.
He also condemned the stopping of the live telecast of the Lok Sabha proceedings while the bill was being passed. He said that the telecast was stopped even though there had been no external threat or no internal emergency. (INN)
