With no untoward incidents having occurred, the Telangana bandh was peaceful in the districts of the region. All over, educational institutions, commercial establishments, businesses and RTC buses stopped functioning.
Hyderabad didn’t respond too well to the bandh call – there were quite a few shops and shutters open in town today. However, the T-20 match at Uppal stadium was disrupted by 200 pro-Telangana activists who wanted Andhra players out. They were controlled by the police, though.
In the rest of Telangana, buses plying from Seema-Andhra to Telangana were stopped by authorities and only those buses meant for pilgrims on the Medaram Jatara (for the Sammakka Saralamma festival) were allowed to run.
Elsewhere, there were rallies and demonstrations. Medak saw a relay fast by journalists, who demanding Telangana politicians’ resignations. In Nalgonda, vehicles were stopped and streets wore a deserted look. Adilabad saw students’ rallies.
Also, the padayatra undertaken by the Telangana students’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) reached Khammam today. The padayatra began at Osmania University and is set to reach Bhadrachalam.
