The Telangana Assembly, on the last day of its monsoon session that was held for 7 days, today unanimously passed a resolution in favour of a Backward Class (BC) census as part of the general census for 2021-22.
Leader of the house and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao moved the proposal for the BC census.
It was passed unanimously by the house, which stressed the need for a BC census as more than 50% of Telangana's population was BCs.
The house urged the Centre to take up a BC census as part of the general census for 2021-22, to help the goverment implement proportionate reservations and representation in the legislature for members of the community.
