Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Saturday alleged that injustice was being done to the Telangana State in the distribution of the Krishna river waters.
As per the Bachawat Tribunal Award, Telangana was allocated 229 TMC while Andhra Pradesh was given 281 TMC. But while Telangana used only 170 TMC of water, AP utilised about 321 TMC.
Despite using excess water, the Andhra Pradesh Government had written a letter to the Krishna Tribunal to stop the release of the allocated water for Telangana, alleged Harish Rao, demanding that the water should be distributed as per the decided ratio.
Rao also criticised the silence of Telangana's TDP leaders over the injustices being done to Telangana by the TDP Government in AP.
Asking the T-TDP leaders to speak up against their party's government, he warned that the people would teach them a fitting lesson if they continued to maintain silence.
The Minister also expressed concern over the AP Government's proposal to raise the height of the Polavaram Dam by 30 feet.
He said the present height of 150 feet would submerge seven mandals, and a further increase in the height by 30 feet would lead to the submersion of even Bhadrachalam's Sri Rama temple.
He claimed that even Orissa and Chhattisgarh were opposed to the increase in the Polavaram Dam's height.
Asking the AP Government to keep the interests of the neighbouring States in mind while making proposals, he said that the Telangana Government would approach the Centre and even the Supreme Court, if required, on the issue. (INN)
