Several advocates were taken into custody on Tuesday, when they tried to take out a rally from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, demanding the introduction of a Telangana Bill in Parliament.
The advocates and judicial staff, who are on a 5-day strike demanding a separate Telangana, tried to take out the rally from the High Court to Madina Circle. However, their protests were foiled, and some advocates were taken into custody.
They were later shifted to nearby police stations.
Later, members of the Telangana Advocates JAC staged a protest in front of the Legislative Assembly. Nearly 20 advocates tried to barge into the building. However, they were stopped by the security forces and were later taken into custody.
Talking to reporters, JAC co-convenors Govardhan Reddy and Naveen Souda said that Telangana advocates were being discriminated against by the police.
He claimed that while advocates from non-Telangana regions were being allowed into the High Court premises, those hailing from the Telangana region were being denied entry. They also condemned the arrest of advocates on Tuesday. (INN)
