Popular teenage playback singer Madhupriya of the Godavarikhani town of the Karimnagar district got married to her boyfriend Mangi Srikanth this afternoon after dramatic developments.
Though her parents had disapproved of her love affair and stoutly opposed her wedding with Srikanth, Madhupriya remained firm and got married to him with the intervention of the police.
Madhupriya, who shot to fame with her song 'Aadapillanammaa... nenu aadapillanani, baadhapadakammaa...' got embroiled in a controversy after she scheduled her wedding for Friday in Sirpur Kagaznagar in the Adilabad district.
The girl, who earned tens of thousands of fans not only in the Telugu States but also across the world, turned 18 just a month back, and wanted to marry her boyfriend Mangi Srikanth with whom she has been in love for over two years. The boy's parents approved of their love and were ready to conduct the wedding at Sirpur Kagaznagar, and also invited friends and relatives for the wedding to be held at 11:20 am.
However, trouble started for Madhupriya when her parents forbade her from marrying due to her young age. The girl then went to the boy's house alone and sought his family's support to protect herself from her wrathful parents. She also approached the police stating that she was a major and had every right to marry of her own volition, and requested the police to protect her from her parents.
The police provided protection to her from her parents, and also counselled her parents and relatives. The parents eventually left the place disappointed.
