Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and activists, on Sunday, were hard at work, filling up potholes and removing silt accumulated on the roads in Vijayawada city.
The TDP workers were led by party district in-charge and MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, in their attempt to mock the Municipal authorities. The protest started from the Benz Circle near National Highway No. 9.
Devineni said that the unique protest was also aimed at shaking the Municipal authorities out of their slumber. He added that the TDP can, at the very least, make efforts to ease the public's suffering by filling the huge craters on the main roads across the city.
Admitting that the solution was only temporary, Devineni said that since his party was not in power, and protests seemingly are not enough to galvanise the Municipal authorities into action, the party activists decided that this was the best they could do.
Devineni pointed out that the roads of all Municipalities and Panchayats in the district, apart from the city, have become almost impassable.
