Accusing the Maharashtra government of behaving in an inhuman manner over the treatment to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and 74 legislators during their detention, the TDP on Saturday said that it will approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the Maharashtra government.
Talking to media persons, senior party leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that the party will also raise the issue before Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy since Naidu is the leader of the opposition.
The TDP leaders met on Saturday at the party headquarters to decide on the further course of action in the absence of the party chief.
It is believed that some senior leaders spoke to Naidu on telephone and sought his guidance on how to take the fight over the Babli Project before the people of the state.
At the press conference, Nagam said that the Maharashtra government's treatment of Naidu was not only inhuman, but also disrespectful since he is a former chief minister who was accompanied by legislators.
He blamed the state government for its indifference to the situation in Nanded. He said that the state government should have condemned Naidu's arrest and also used its influence to secure the delegation members' release.
He also alleged that state Chief Minister K Rosaiah is behind the arrest of the TDP chief, and that this is proved by the absence of any reaction by state government over the issue.
Nagam also criticised this indifference and the absence of any condemnation by the state government. He said that the government should not treat the issue as a political issue. He added that the TDP's stand over the Babli Project is purely in the interest of farmers of the state.
