Policemen on duty at the state assembly gates were at the receiving end of an angry outburst by senior Telugu Desam Party leader Payyavula Keshav, after a policeman reportedly got too 'touchy' with the legislator and pinched him.
According to eyewitnesses, a team of TDP leaders, consisting of Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Payyavula Keshav, along with 8 others, tried to make their way into the Jubilee Hall in which a meeting of chief ministers from the southern states was being held.
The TDP delegation was keen on meeting Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Chief Minister K Rosaiah inside the Jubilee Hall.
The TDP delegation was denied permission to enter the premises and stopped at the gates. The security personnel said that they were under strict instructions not to allow anyone to enter the premises. An argument between the police and the TDP delegation ensued, following which the leaders were told that they were under arrest.
The police then tried to shift the TDP leaders into a waiting vehicle, when Payyavula was pinched. The TDP legislator got angry at the 'touching situation', and lambasted the cops on duty there.
He said that he was a public representative and this was not the way to behave with an elected member of the assembly.
Payyavula and the other TDP leaders were shifted to the Gandhinagar police station, where they were released later.
