TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh today accused the YSRCP-led state government of abetting the suicide of a social media activist of the TDP by filing a false case against him to settle political scores.
Lokesh alleged that the YSRCP leaders had victimised TDP activist Kona Venkata Rao eventually forcing the latter to commit suicide at Pothangi village in Mandasa mandal of Srikakulam district.
The TDP leader said that the only crime of the victim was posting a social media comment on the "multiple failures, unchecked corruption and countless atrocities" under CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's regime, and that it resulted in the ruling party goondas condemning the activist's wife to windowhood on the eve of International Women's Day.
Lokesh strongly condemned the incident, and demanded the immediate arrest of YSRCP MLC Duvvada Srinivas and others for "harassing and abetting" Rao's suicide.
"Only the police and the YSRCP leaders will end up alive in AP if they continue to implicate and eliminate all questioning voices in the state," he said.
The TDP MLC also warned of serious repercussions if the ruling party leaders went on misusing the police force to undermine the laws and take revenge against their opponents.
"And how can Jagan ever become a protector of women when his own sisters in his family are feeling threatened? One sister has run away to the neighbouring state, and another is on the roads begging for justice for her father's murder," Lokesh added speaking in the context of it being Women's Day.
The TDP leader also alleged that Reddy was also having a direct impact on the day to day lives of women due to his "atrocious" decisions.
He said that the women of the state were unable to run their households smoothly due to steep hikes in house taxes, current charges and prices of essential commodities. He added that Jagan's government was the only one in the country to slap even a garbage tax on the people.
The TDP MLC advised Jagan to change his attitude and start striving for women's security and overall welfare. He said that the TDP would pray that God confer good sense on the Chief Minister so that he worked towards the well-being of women.
