Telangana TDP Working President A Revanth Reddy today demanded that the State government pay Rs. 6 lakhs as compensation to the farmers who committed suicides during 2014-2016.
Speaking at the Assembly media point on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy, along with other members of his Party, alleged that the TRS government had been misleading on figures of farmer suicide cases in the State, but the National Crime Research Bureau's latest report stated that Telangana was second in farmer suicides in the nation, with 898 cases in 2014 and 1,358 in 2015.
Quoting the NCRB report that 2,256 farmers have committed suicide since 2014, the TDP leader demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister.
Earlier, Reddy turned up in the Assembly wearing black shawls to register their protest. He said the Party moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly on farmers suicides. The State government should come forward to mitigate the problems of farmers as agricultural sector was already in crisis.
