Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday, demanded that the government provide 33% reservation in law-making bodies, for Backward Classes.
Talking media persons after emerging out of a meeting convened for the empowerment of BCs, at NTR Trust Bhavan, Naidu demanded that the government appoint a national-level commission to look into problems being faced by BCs.
He announced that the TDP would start an agitation at the national level, to demand a 33% reservation in the legislative bodies for BCs.
Naidu also demanded that the government not reduce the 27% quota for BCs by providing a 4.5% reservation for minorities. Instead, he said, the minorities must be given a separate quota and funds for their empowerment and welfare.
The TDP chief also demanded that the government allot adequate funds in the budget for the empowerment of BCs. He said that he objects to the inclusion of communities in the BC list and an increas in reservation quota without sufficient funds being allocated for their welfare. (INN)
