The Telugu Desam Party and Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday sought the intervention of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to conduct a special meeting of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's council.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, TDP floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said that many developmental works and other activities have remained non-executed since a long period for the want of approval from the GHMC Council. He said that dengue and other highly contagious diseases, encroachments, desilting of nalas, remodelling of storm water drains, finalisation of a scientific method of revising property taxes, and other issues need immediate attention.
The TDP leader pointed out that the last meeting of the GHMC Council was held on May 24. He said that 44 corporators belonging to the TDP have submitted a requisition notice on December 15 and December 24 to GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain with a request to call a special meeting under Section 88 (D) of the HMC Act, 1955. However, the meeting has not yet been convened, and being the corporator, I could not face the anger of the local public, he said.
Singireddy requested the Chief Minister intervene in the matter, and arrange a special council meeting within a fortnight by coordinating with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister M Maheedhar Reddy and the Mayor.
In a separate letter to the Chief Minister, BJP floor leader Bangari Prakash said that the developmental activities have stagnated due to delay in conducting the meeting. He also requested the Chief Minister to organise a meeting with the minister concerned and the Mayor immediately. (INN)
